WHAT TO DO:

Visiting the Sahara Desert is a must that visitors find most enjoyable in winter or, if possible, before April after which the heat might just become unbearable. The Algerian coast can be discovered nearly year-round, thanks to its mild, comfortable winters and reasonably hot summers.

WHAT TO SEE :

Nestled at the heart of Algeria, the Sahara Desert is the country's undisputed crown jewel. Near Tamanrasset, walk down sandy city streets; enjoy the surprizing architecture of the cubic-style houses. Then it's off to the Hoggar region where you will discover spectacular ochre-colored rock formations, impressive sand dunes and the mysterious Blue Men of the desert; all of which will make you wonder if you time-travelled back into the past. The Tassili N'Ajjer plateau will allow you to discover a harsh, tormented scenery of canyons, peaks and gorges, along with prehistoric cave drawings dating back 4000 years ago. On the western side, catch the Timimoun oasis where one will discover its impressive palm tree farm and the ancient salt lakes. This is also the starting point for the annual famous Grand Erg Occidental rally. The coastal city of Oran is home to the Sacré-Cœur cathedral. There, visit Ghardaïa, the old town, its cemetery, its underground Mosque and of course its famous carpets. In Tlemcen, let yourself be charmed by the beauty of the medina and its mosques.

THINGS TO DO:

To prevent any possible health-related discomforts, refrain from drinking tap water, peel all fruits and protect yourself adequately against mosquitoes. If you opt for a desert trek, do bring a small first aid kit, sunscreen and water. At this date, it is best recommended to travel through Algeria in well organized groups and tours.

ELECTRICITY:

Electrical current in use in Algeria is 20 Volts, 60 cycles. You will need an adapter to use your devices. (http://www.levoyageur.net/prises.php?paysfr=Ha%EFti)
