Aruba is a tiny Caribbean island just off nearby Venezuela. Who would have suspected that such a small island of just about 190 km2 could have so much to offer! Here, you'll find impeccable white sand beaches and the ocean displays many different amazing shades of blue...

This destination enjoys warm weather year-round. Trade winds bring a bit of freshness to this otherwise tropical weather where annual average temperature maintains itself around 28° C , with few tropical storms.

WHAT TO DO:

Travellers to Aruba feel fully content with an exuberant offering of historical sites and a blend of fun and ecological activities. Gambling is also very popular on the island. The choice is yours, but what about the beaches of Aruba and the majesty of its diving sites! Once you find yourself in the water, be sure to check out one of the many dive sites and the popular Antilla shipwreck.

WHAT TO SEE:

Nature is most likely, one of Aruba's greatest assets. Arikok National Park, is home to most of the island's different animal species. Hiking trails, caves or steep walls for the avid climbers, can all be found and sooth the most demanding, in this 40 square KM natural park. Explore caves, many of which having still some pre-Columbian wall paintings. Along the different paths, many lookouts give visitors an amazing view of surrounding land and sea. Bird lovers will want to visit the bird sanctuary, dedicated to preserving the survival and natural habitat of the Shoco. You might rather get yourself wet and explore the many reefs where a vivacious, colourful marine life can be found in abundance. The choice is yours. Try to take in as much as you can during your stay, but there is simply so much you'll want to do. Hopefully, you won't miss the butterfly farm, the California lighthouse and its breathtaking view. Would you rather see the Archological Museum of Aruba where an impressive collection of ancient household objects and historical artefacts from the island's past? Besides historical landmarks and natural wonders, the island also offers many restaurants and quaint local cafés, most of which can be found in and around the different hotels and resorts. You can also spend time in the shopping areas and malls where the avid shopper will find something for all tastes. ORANJESTAD is the island's largest town. Bustling with activity and a pleasant atmosphere, it might be a nice change from the beach… Enjoy Oranjestad and take a stroll between the anchored giant cruise ships and sample some local cuisine. Aruba remains beloved for its natural beauty and picture perfect beaches as well as its little colourful houses which just add to a most pleasant ambiance. You might then make your way to Queen Wilhelmine Park, named after the Dutch queen who had considerable influence on the island's history and development, then to the St-Anne's Cathedral, a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture, built at the end of the 18th century. Finally, you will want to see the statue of Simon Bolivar, the city's most popular landmark.

Frankly the island offers so much that during a short stay, you might just decide that once is not enough and simply come back!

CURRENCY:

The official currency in Aruba is the Aruban florin. Even if prices are displayed in the local currency, the American dollar is widely accepted. Other currencies can be exchanged in local banks and currency exchange offices. Many ATM can be found on the island but mostly in the most populous areas. All major credit cards and travellers' cheque are accepted. A 37$ USD departure tax is usually included in your airfare. If not, it will be collected upon departure at the airport. Be sure to verify. TIPPING:

Hotels add a 19% tax and service fee to your bill. Many goods are exempt from any sales tax but other taxable products prices already include a 6.5% sales tax. A 10 to 15% tip is usually included in restaurant bills. Please verify. Cab drivers expect a 10 to 15 % tip, while baggage handlers will get about 2$ per pieces of luggage and chambermaids should be given a 2$ per day gratuity.
