Cozumel

Find yourself a colorful palapa (palm roof hut), take out the sunscreen and get ready to enjoy the natural beauty of the island of Cozumel. Mexico has built a reputation for its perfect beaches, but there is not one in this territory that rivals the white sand and turquoise blue waters of Cozumel.

WHAT TO DO:

Where else could you swim with dolphins, explore the jungle and visit Mayan archaeological sites, all in the same day? Cozumel has some of the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere. The water off Cozumel is clear and allows you to take memorable underwater shots. Who says coral reef, says marine habitat! You will have the chance to see several species of fish and admire a healthy, complex marine wildlife. The marine flora deploys all its colors and offers a remarkable spectacle. The charms of the coast of Cozumel don't stop there. Most hotels offer water activities such as jet skiing, sailing or windsurfing. The water is usually very clear, enough that it is often possible to observe the seabed from the surface! Cozumel awaits you with many sports and attractions, whether underwater or on the surface!

WHAT TO SEE:

Cozumel is a small island but its historical and artistic treasures it shares with its visitors are immense. The island of Cozumel charms tourists as they find themselves on a wonderful island just a few miles away from the mainland of the Riviera Maya. Ecological Reserve Faro Celerain amazes visitors of all ages with its exotic creatures and sea turtle sanctuary. No visit to Cozumel would be complete without including a trip to the Faro Celerain Ecological Reserve, the largest of the island located at Punta Sur. North of the island one will find Punta Molas and its beautiful beaches. Its flagship is an excellent vantage point to watch the wild side of the island. The rugged coastline and endless sea offer magnificent views that alone make the trip, well worth itself. Mother-nature has made this visit an exciting journey. Due to damage caused by Hurricane Vilma in 2005, there are only two ways now to get there: rent a 4x4 or come by the seas. The scenery is breathtaking. Do not forget your camera! North of the island, scattered over a wide field are the remains of what was once the pyramids of San Gervasio, today the largest archaeological site in Cozumel and also the best preserved.

THINGS TO DO:

Cozumel is also attractive out of the water. With its highly prestigious golf courses, shops, museums and the archaeological site of San Gervasio, there is definitely something to entertain you! The island in general is also characterized by its large trees and lagoons, enough to bring out the natural side of the area. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and come to Cozumel to enjoy the wonderful cares of their comfortable spas which support the saying "A healthy mind in a healthy body ". You will come out revitalized, rid of your stress and refreshed. All along the coast, several locations offer relaxing massages whether on the beach, in "all inclusive" hotels or at Spas with specialized equipment.

ELECTRICITY:

110 volts and plugs are flat pins. It is recommended to bring an adapter.

CURRENCY:

The Mexican currency is the PESO ($ ME). To know the exchange rate: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/exchange/ All banks have ATMs and accept Visa and MasterCard payments, as well as American Express. In addition to the commission paid to your bank, Mexican banks charge a commission when withdrawing. A departure tax of approximately US $per person is usually included in your flight ticket.

TIPPING:

Mexico is the country of propina ("tip"), always have change (cambio) with you. It is polite to leave a minimum of 10% of the bill, up to 15 % if you are happy with the service of the maid, janitors, doormen, porters, tour guides and rest room attendants, however no tipis expected to unmetered taxi drivers.
