The country's official currency is the Tunisian Dinar (TND). It is important to know that according to Tunisian law, it is forbidden to import and export Tunisian dinars. It is therefore advisable to declare the currency you have in your possession when you arrive in the country. You must keep the declaration and your conversion receipts. Automated banking machines are readily available in tourist areas as well as in major centres. Many establishments in urban and tourist areas accept credit cards. Do not forget to communicate the dates of your stay in Tunisia to your banking institution if you plan to use your cards at your destination.
You will need a power adapter and maybe a converter. Electrical outlets used in Tunisia are not the same as in Canada. Voltage is 220V and frequency is 50Hz. Make sure your devices mention “INPUT: 100-240V, 50/60Hz”. If not, you will need a converter.
It is strongly recommended that your Canadian passport be valid for at least 6 months after the date of your return from travel. For more information on entry and exit requirements, visit the Government of Canada's website.
