When you think of Mexico, the Mayan Pyramids immediately come to mind! The Yucatán Peninsula, in the east of the country, is home to beautiful pyramids and well-preserved ruins that date back several hundred years. Among the most impressive sites are Tulum, Chichén Itzá, Cobá, Calakmul and Uxmal. You will be overwhelmed by the beauty of these historic gems.
Cenotes are natural gems that you must absolutely visit. These natural sinkholes, filled with freshwater, sometimes let in the light of sun rays through the natural openings. Over time, they have become beloved by tourists... and with good reason. You can go there for swimming or scuba diving. Cenotes are found mainly in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Mexicans love to party! For them, family and friends are very important and any occasion is good for laughter, dancing and feasting. You may be invited to join in their big celebrations such as the pre-Lent Carnival, Spring Break and maybe even El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
When it comes to beaches, Mexico offers travelers the best of both worlds. On the Pacific Ocean side, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Huatulco and Manzanillo have long and wide beaches with huge waves that appeal to surfers. On the Caribbean side, Cancún, Riviera Maya and Cozumel in turn provide magnificent white sand beaches bordered by turquoise waters.
Mexico is known for its gastronomy. Guacamole, fajitas, burritos, tacos with tomato salsa and grilled fish will easily make your mouth water! If you are new to Mexican food, you will fall in love with the national gastronomy from your first stay in the country. If you like gourmet outings, you should make a stop at the Alux restaurant where local gastronomic dishes are served in a beautiful cave. This is a truly unique and most enjoyable experience!
