1. Choose your seat carefully
It's well known that space is rather limited on airplanes. Therefore, choosing the right seat is crucial for maximizing comfort and ensuring a pleasant flight. First, avoid seats located directly next to the toilets. While there may be more legroom, the line of passengers will encroach upon your space. Seats near the emergency exits offer more legroom, but it's important to note that they don't recline. A window seat is perfect for enjoying the scenery and, more importantly, for leaning back when you want to take a nap. A seat at the front of the plane might allow you to disembark first upon landing. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what you prefer.
2. Prioritize comfort above all else
To survive a long flight, comfort is key! Air conditioning is often very cold on airplanes, so plan to layer your clothing. There's nothing worse than being freezing during a long flight. Some airlines provide blankets and even small pillows to their passengers. Don't hesitate to ask! Another tip: opt for loose, comfortable clothing. Ladies, leggings are a great idea!
3. Take a short nap
It's not always easy to sleep on a plane, whether due to lack of space or comfort. To arrive at your destination refreshed, try to get some sleep. Opt for herbal tea rather than coffee or alcohol to help you relax. Also, pack an eye mask, a U-shaped neck pillow, earplugs, or headphones with relaxing music to help you sleep on board.
4. Stay hydrated and eat light meals
It's important to stay well-hydrated throughout your flight. The pressurized cabin air is very dry, so you need to drink plenty of fluids. You can buy a bottle of water just before boarding the plane to ensure you have water available at all times during your flight and don't have to wait for the flight attendants. Another tip is to eat light! Avoid fatty and salty foods, as they are much harder to digest and tend to cause nausea. Consider energy bars, fruit, cheese, nuts, or something similar.
5. Prepare a small survival kit
Prepare a small first-aid kit for the plane, making sure to comply with regulations. Bring: a toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, deodorant, lip balm, ibuprofen, and Gravol (very useful for nausea). Also bring gum; it's a lifesaver for blocked ears on airplanes!
6. Plan some entertainment
Bring some entertainment to make your flight more enjoyable and, above all, shorter! Books, magazines, newspapers, electronic devices... Don't forget your headphones if you want to watch a movie offered on board! Some movies are free, others require payment, so bring your credit card.
