La Rambla is Barcelona's most famous avenue. This lively spot is always bustling with street performances. You can see musicians, clowns, and even living statues! This iconic 1200-meter avenue connects Plaça de Catalonya to the old port, where the statue of Christopher Columbus stands.
On either side of the Ramblas are places that, in my opinion, are unmissable.
Besides these architectural masterpieces, here are my favorite places:
Plaça de Catalunya
Located in the heart of the shopping district, this square is just a few minutes' walk from the university area, the Gothic Quarter, and the Eixample district. It's also the beginning of Las Ramblas, which connects Port Vell, the old port, and Barceloneta. In short, it's one of Barcelona's main squares.
La Boqueria
This market is a true explosion of smells and colors. Stroll among the different stalls to soak it all in—it's a pure delight! Food lovers will discover all sorts of cheeses, hams, fish, fruits, and vegetables. Enjoying tapas and a glass of cava in one of the Boqueria's tiny bars is also a very pleasant option!
The old town Ciutat vella
Called "Cuitat Vella," this area has always been the official, cultural, and tourist center of the city. The medieval architecture is truly beautiful. You can wander the narrow streets for hours, discovering its hidden corners. I personally love shopping there in the artisan boutiques, both vintage and trendy.
Gothic Quarter
The cathedral is the main landmark of the city's historic center. I recommend taking a stroll there on Sunday morning; you might even have the chance to witness the "Sardana," the Catalan national dance, which takes place next to the cathedral.
Don't miss the Plaza Real either, a vast 19th - century square with its palm trees, lampposts designed by Gaudí, and numerous terraces...
The Ciutadella Park
Head to this beautiful 30-hectare park and admire its lush vegetation. It features an Arc de Triomf, Barcelona Zoo, and magnificent fountains designed by Gaudí. Ideal for a relaxing Sunday in the company of many locals.
Montjuic
The city's green lung, perched atop a 200-meter-high hill, is accessible by chairlift from Barcelonnette or on foot. For the more athletic, I recommend the climb starting from Plaça de España, which is also well worth the effort! Once at the top, enjoy a relaxing stroll and panoramic views of the city and the sea. For sports enthusiasts, a visit to the former Olympic Games site is a must; you won't be disappointed.
