The Island of the Dolls, a unique experience!

One of the most unusual places in the world is located in the marshy region of Xochimilco, south of Mexico City. An abandoned island filled with dolls. It is known as Isla de las Munecas, or, if you prefer, the Island of the Dolls.

This rather strange tourist attraction originated from a legend dating back to the 1950s. A certain Julian Santana Barrera left his family and his now routine life to go and live alone on a deserted island.

The man is convinced that the island is haunted by the spirit of a little girl, found dead a few years earlier in the canal bordering the island. Hoping to ward off the bad luck, Julian begins a doll collection, hanging them all around his house. For years, he collects dolls here and there. He even barters with villagers, exchanging dolls for vegetables he grows on his land.

Today, no one lives on the island, which was discovered in the 1990s. However, it remains inhabited by these strange dolls, ravaged by time. The dolls are now decomposing, giving the place a macabre appearance.

Even today, the island is visited weekly by dozens of people. Some even bring dolls which they hang in the trees to keep the legend alive!

This story is frankly chilling, but the Island of the Dolls remains a very popular tourist attraction in the Mexico City area.
