Barcelo Bavaro Palace

This hotel has a beautiful, calm, clean, and very long beach perfect for walking. It's a large resort, yes, a bit dated, but with a warm charm and gardens with mature palm trees. There are many à la carte restaurants as well as a very nice golf course. Excellent value for money, I love it!

Overall, a very nice trip, a beautiful location, and the golf course is perfect. However, check-in was a bit chaotic and lengthy, but otherwise, the service was very good.

Stay from March 6th to 13th at the Barceló Bávaro Palace. Transportation and arrival: This was our first time flying with WestJet and frankly, it was impeccable: no queues, and the planes were nicer and more comfortable than Sunwing's. The airport-hotel transfer was quick, about 30 minutes. Check-in and room: Upon arrival, a slight disappointment: check-in took about an hour, but this was mentioned in several reviews, so we were somewhat expecting it. We were in room 2125: very clean, working air conditioning, good amount of hot water, but the shower pressure was a bit weak. Dining: • Buffet: very repetitive, always the same thing every night. • À la carte restaurants: easy reservations for our four restaurants. The Italian Dolce Vita was excellent, especially the smoked salmon and the beef carpaccio. Everything was very fresh. The house wine was surprisingly good, especially for those who, like me, don't usually like resort white wine. • Bars: A wide variety of quality drinks and cocktails, some of the best I've seen in a hotel. Absolut Vodka-Cranberry, Clamato… Interestingly, we didn't pay for premium drinks, yet the alcohol offered was high quality. Beach: Honestly, a disappointment. Reviews say that Bávaro Beach is one of the most beautiful in the world, but I highly doubt it. The water wasn't clear; compared to Cuba or Mexico, it's not the most beautiful. You have to get up early to find a lounge chair: after midday, it's very difficult to find one. Entertainment: • Evening shows: The best I've ever seen, very diverse and in a huge venue. • Disco and casino: We went, but we didn't stay long. Communication with staff: One last point: I find it regrettable that some employees don't speak French or English, which makes communication difficult. It was getting frustrating towards the end of the week. Conclusion: Despite a few areas for improvement (buffet, beach, communication), the value for money is excellent. The hotel is huge, you do a lot of walking, but it's good exercise 😅. For someone as hard to please as me, I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend this hotel 100% and would definitely go back.

Transport et arrivée
C’était notre première fois avec WestJet et franchement, impeccable : aucune file d’attente, avions plus beaux et confortables que ceux de Sunwing. Le transfert aéroport-hôtel a été rapide, environ 30 minutes.

Check-in et chambre
À l’arrivée, petite déception : le check-in a pris environ 1 heure, mais c’était un point mentionné dans plusieurs reviews, donc on s’y attendait un peu. Nous étions dans la chambre 2125 : très propre, climatisation fonctionnelle, bonne quantité d’eau chaude, mais pression de douche un peu faible.

Restauration
• Buffet : très répétitif, toujours la même chose chaque soir.
• Restaurants à la carte : réservation facile pour nos quatre restaurants. Le Dolce Vita italien était excellent, notamment le saumon fumé et le carpaccio de bœuf. Tout était très frais. Le vin maison était surprenant et très bon, surtout pour ceux qui, comme moi, n’aiment généralement pas le vin blanc des resorts.
• Bars : grande variété de boissons et cocktails de qualité, l’un des meilleurs que j’ai vus dans un hôtel. Absolut Vodka-Canneberge, Clamato… Ce qui est intéressant, c’est que nous n’avons pas payé pour le premium et pourtant l’alcool offert était de haute qualité.

Plage
Honnêtement, déception. Les reviews disent que la plage de Bávaro est l’une des plus belles au monde, mais j’en doute fortement. L’eau n’était pas transparente ; comparée à Cuba ou au Mexique, ce n’est pas la plus belle. Pour les chaises longues, il faut se lever tôt : après midi, c’est très difficile d’en trouver.

Animation et divertissement
• Spectacles du soir : les meilleurs que j’ai jamais vus, très diversifiés et dans une salle immense.
• Disco et casino : nous y sommes allés, mais nous n’y sommes pas restés longtemps.

Communication avec le personnel
Dernier point : je trouve désolant que certains employés ne parlent ni français ni anglais, ce qui rend la communication difficile. Cela devenait frustrant vers la fin de la semaine.

Conclusion
Malgré quelques points à améliorer (buffet, plage, communication), le rapport qualité-prix est excellent. L’hôtel est immense, on marche beaucoup, mais ça fait de l’exercice 😅. Pour quelqu’un d’extrêmement difficile à satisfaire comme moi, j’ai été agréablement surprise. Je recommande cet hôtel à 100 % et j’y retournerais sans hésiter.

The beach is superb. Shade is provided by large palm trees, making it a bit difficult to find. Large pools with plenty of lounge chairs. The buffets are very repetitive, the food is lukewarm, and it's a bit lacking in cleanliness. The family junior suite is perfect: two separate bedrooms, each with its own patio. The master bedroom's patio has a spa. The steakhouse and seafood restaurants (à la carte) are average. We've stayed at the Barcelo Maya in Mexico, and the one in the Dominican Republic is not comparable. The one in the Dominican Republic deserves a 4-star rating, and the one in Mexico is much better. Furthermore, the staff is less welcoming and less friendly. This is all based on our experience of over 50 trips.

La plage est superbe. L'ombre se fait avec de grand palmiers sur la plage donc c'est plus difficile. Grandes piscines avec beaucoup de chaises. Les buffets sont très répétitifs, nourriture tiède et manque un peu de propreté. La suite junior familiale est parfaite. 2 chambres distintes avec chacune leur patio. Le patio de la chambre principale est dotée d'un spa.
Le steak house et le fruit de mer (restaurants à la carte) sont ordinaires.
Nous sommes allés au Barcelo maya au Mexique et celui de la République n'est pas comparable. Celui de la RD mérite un 4 étoiles et celui du Mexique est bcp mieux.
De plus, le personnel est moins accueillant, moins souriant. Tout ceci selon notre avis après plus de 50 voyages.
