Barcelo Maya Colonial

I just finished my 1 week stay at the Colonial with my husband and my 2 kids aged 3 and 11.

The room: We booked the superior room which includes 1 king and 1 sofa bed. I requested a crib for my 3 year old since there was no sleeping option for him. They gave us a crib which was not the standard Canadian/American size it was super small more for a new born and the mattress in the crib was not even a mattress, more like a diaper changing Matt. Because the crib was too small for my son I put the crib mattress in a tent on the floor and adds the extra pillows from our bed and it worked out just fine. Also if you like your morning coffee in your room, the maids don’t usually refill it unless you ask them so keep that in mind.

The Buffet: we were satisfied with the selection, and have no complaints about the food. The only thing we and ALOT of other guest complained about was the fact that the supper buffet only opened at 6:30pm.. this is a family resort with kids, 6:30 is very late for a lot of families with small children.

The main splash pad: Amazing, the kids absolutely loved it!

The gym: I was impressed with the gym, however once again, since this is a family resort, the should have put a daycare option attached to the gym so we can workout while our kids are close by.

Entertainment: there wasn’t really any entertainment by the pool, maybe less than 20%

The great part about staying at the colonial is you have access to the sister resorts right beside, the only thing is they say you have access but then you can’t get a drink at their bar which is very odd.

The beach: No complaints.

This is our second time at the Barcelo Maya. It's just as magnificent as ever. Everything is beautiful. The staff is attentive and professional. The resort is peaceful, which allows you to truly feel like you're on vacation and disconnect from the obligations of daily life.

C'est notre 2e fois au Barcelo Maya. C'est toujours aussi magnifique. Tout est beau. Le personnelle est attentionner et professionnelle. Le site est paisible, ce qui paermet de vraiment se sentir en vacance et de décrocher des obligations de la vie quotidienne.

Aside from the very rocky beach, the place is beautiful. However, if you just want to relax and read by the pool, forget it. It's too noisy. And as if that weren't enough, instead of concentrating the activities in one pool, they move them around everywhere, which can be very unpleasant for those looking for a quiet spot. For those seeking peace and quiet, you should opt for the Barcelo Maya Beach, the Barcelo Maya Palace, or the Barcelo Maya Riviera, which have adults-only pools and are much calmer.

Mis à part pour la plage qui est très rocailleuse, l'endroit est magnifique. Toutefois, si vous souhaitez juste relaxer en lisant sur le bord de la piscine, oubliez ça. Trop bruyant. Et comme si ce n'était pas assez, au lieu de concentrer les activités à une seule piscine, ils les promènent partout, ce qui peut être très désagréable pour ceux qui recherchent un coin calme. Pour ces derniers, il faut plutôt opter pour le Barcelo Maya Beach, le Barcelo Maya Palace ou le Barcelo Maya Riviera, lesquels ont des piscines réservées aux adultes et qui sont calmes,

Beware of the chicken skewers on wooden sticks! You'll get bits of wood in your mouth! The wooden sticks are poor quality. The staff isn't very friendly. However, the resort itself is very beautiful and very large!

Attention aux brochettes de poulet sur tige de bois! Des morceaux de bois plein la bouche! Tige de bois de mauvaise qualité. Personnel pas très souriant. Par contre, très beau et très grand resort!

The beach/sea is magnificent, yes, it's a bit rocky, but there are lots of palm trees on the beach and tons of fish to see about fifty feet from the shore. Very clean everywhere, very friendly staff, exceptional location. The bathroom is a bit dated but clean.

Pour la plage/mer, magnifique, oui, c'est un peu rocailleux, mais beaucoup de palmiers sur la plage et énormément de poissons a voir à une cinquantaine de pieds de la plage. Tres propre partout, personnel tres gentil, site exceptionnel. Salle de bain un peu ''vieillotte'' mais propre.
