This new adults-only hotel offers over 500 rooms with sea views, a gigantic infinity pool, and 2 km of white sand for your strolls. In short, the ideal resort for your next romantic getaway!
Guests highlight the excellent quality and wide variety of food, especially in the à la carte restaurants. The cleanliness of the hotel and rooms is highly praised, as is the beauty and upkeep of the property. The quality of service, the friendliness of the staff, the beautiful swimming pools, and the spacious and comfortable rooms are also strong points. However, a lack of evening entertainment is sometimes mentioned. The presence of seaweed or rocks on the beach is also occasionally noted.

Had a fabulous vacation, the property is kept incredibly clean, rooms are spacious, the beach is HUGE with lots of chairs and shade under the many palm trees

DEC 2025 It was our first time in Mexico and the Barcelo Maya Riviera Adults Only (AO) resort and we will definitely go back. We were able to book a restaurant on almost every night, some stood out more than others: The Japanese grill at Sapporo and the Taco Bar at Agave. What I liked was the fact that the a la carte restaurants had a full bar so you could order anything you wanted. They always ask about allergies.
BUFFET: So much selection, always kept clean, full bar, automated coffee machines, lots of seating available. They have a Vegan section + Gluten-free. While were were there, it was open until 10PM but I know it sometimes closes at 6PM when hotel isn't full.
Service was amazing throughout the resort. Aurora kept our room very clean and replenished with towels and toiletries; we also received amazing, friendly service from Diego Luna at Reception and for booking restos. So many others whose names I did not get. GUEST SERVICES were open from 7AM-11PM.
I believe every room has a hot tub on the balcony with a table and 2 chairs. We had 2 double beds put together but you could not tell, it just looked and felt like a massive king, nice firm mattress topper. They change your sheets after 3 days. The mini-fridge had colas, beer, soda, juices, water and 2 small bags of peanuts. We only drank water and it was always replenished daily. There is a safe in the room, a steamer, hairdryer, lots of hangers, an umbrella, filter coffee machine. White towels were replenished daily, we were able to get beach towels exchanged every day, sometimes twice (Towel exchange from 8AM-8PM)
The best part was the expansive beach with lots of COMFORTABLE chairs. We could show up at 11AM and still have 2 chairs available. Most people seemed to like the pool and hung around there. We did not go in the pool but it looked nice with stands in the middle where you can put your drink down and hang out. Bring water shoes as there are a lot of rocks in certain areas as you get into the water. There is a bit of seaweed (Sargassum) as well, especially on windy days. I noticed that the pool guests are lucky as there is staff going around all day long taking drink orders but this does not exist at the beach, just felt a little unfair. But of course it's not a big deal to have to get up and walk a bit :)
The resort was incredibly clean, there was always someone cleaning around us. The lobby area where there are couches and tables & white plastic chairs with the changing lights was always clutter-free with the employees picking up empty glasses. Staff was always around asking if you would like a drink. Their drinks were really good. This is what I tried: Bloody Caesar, Mojito, Mango Daiquiri, Lemon Drop martini (soooooooo good). Beside the lobby bar is a place where you can get your espressos and coffees, tea selection, sandwiches with a panini press and pickles & nuts, etc.
Our room faced the jungle which was very private and we were surrounded by the beautiful sounds of nature. It gave us the opportunity to see so many different animals: Agouti Mama & her baby, Lizards, King bird, Yucatan Jay. We saw a Coati running at the beach. Some people saw monkeys as well.
Staying at the Adults Only gives you full access to all the other Barcelo resorts and their restaurants and their buffets which is pretty cool. We took the red double-decker bus one day and went to the palace to have lunch. Provided us with a different closer view of the water, it was really nice. The service was just a great there as the AO. That is the only thing missing at the AO, being able to eat closer to the beach with a nice view.
We walked from AO all the way to the end (Palace) by the beach and it took 25 min at a leisurely pace. We saw how small the other beaches were compared to the AO.
The only negative is the layout of the hotel as far a nightly noise is concerned. Even though we were not that close to the entertainment and on the 4th floor, the music really carries though the halls and you hear it in your room. You also hear the drunk guests returning back to their room at 3AM, being very loud and laughing, and so on.... That's my only real complaint about this place.
I already recommended this wonderful place to a friend who was looking for a carefree relaxing vacation where you feel well-taken care of, where you eat and drink well and they LOVED it and thanked me for the recommendation when they went a month after me.
