Halfway between Cancún Airport and the Tulum ruins, the Catalonia Playa Maroma hotel is located directly on one of the Riviera Maya's most beautiful white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, Playa Maroma. This charming, small, colorful, colonial-style resort is surrounded by lush vegetation. It's ideal for couples, families, and solo travelers looking to relax and unwind. The staff is friendly and provides courteous, attentive service.
The staff is highly praised for their friendliness and excellent service, often speaking French. The beach is beautiful, with white sand and plenty of sun loungers. The cleanliness of the resort and rooms is excellent. The food is excellent and varied, with good buffets and à la carte restaurants, all set in lush surroundings with diverse wildlife. However, it is occasionally noted that the buffet food can be repetitive or not hot enough. Additionally, the rooms are sometimes considered dated, and the air conditioning can be weak or noisy.

A beautiful stay enhanced by lush vegetation and good times.
Aside from the lack of a place to escape the heat, the resort is very well maintained, with lush vegetation and courteous, friendly staff. The restaurants are good; we loved the Italian one. The buffet offered a lot of variety, although a small grill area would have been appreciated, beyond just meats in sauce or fish and pork cooked on the griddle. However, we always managed to find something to our liking...except for the fries, which were only available at the Beloved restaurant. At the Beloved, the menu was limited, but still excellent. It's a shame the heat was so oppressive during lunchtime...but the view is superb! The rooms were clean, although the small refrigerator wasn't always stocked. You had to ask. The push for upgrades to the Exclusive section (timeshare) is inappropriate...they're persistent, and it becomes annoying. The sargassum seaweed is collected several times a day so we could enjoy this idyllic beach. The staff and service were commendable; in short, a wonderful stay!

Too expensive to swim in a pool!
Unfortunately, the algae, lots of algae, too much algae, it's unprecedented. Surely, you don't pay a fortune to get sunburned around a pool.

Dream week
Semaine de rêve
Thanks to the favorable weather, we had a dream stay. Everything was perfect: cleanliness, entertainment, and food. The room was comfortable with a balcony overlooking nature. The beach offered long walks on white sand. Unfortunately, sargassum seaweed had arrived since mid-March, which limited swimming in the sea. The magnificent swimming pool more than made up for this inconvenience. It's a quiet and relaxing family resort with several small, mischievous wild animals. As the hotel is set back from the road, it's difficult to leave the grounds without taking an excursion, which turns out to be very expensive.
