Very small, very clean site

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Puerto Plata. From the moment we arrived, we were delighted to have chosen a room in the adults-only section of the hotel. We had access to a pool reserved for guests 18 and over, and, most importantly, we were staying in one of the two adults-only buildings, buildings 12 and 13. This proved to be a very good choice, especially on weekends. The main pool is quite noisy, with music that is sometimes very loud. Many Dominicans come to stay there from Friday afternoon until Sunday, which means the pool quickly becomes very crowded and it's difficult to find a spot. We, therefore, greatly appreciated the tranquility of our adults-only section. The beach is undoubtedly the hotel's biggest asset. It's beautiful and offers a much more peaceful atmosphere. In the morning, the sea is generally calmer, while in the afternoon, the wind picks up and the waves become more prominent. We particularly enjoyed being lulled by the waves. There are plenty of chairs available, but shady spots are harder to find. There's no music on the beach, which is very pleasant when you just want to relax. However, you do have to contend with several vendors walking along the beach. Some are quite pushy at times. The beach is also perfect for lovely walks. We could walk for about 45 minutes to the right and a good 30 minutes to the left. On the right, you pass the Grand Ventana and Blue Bay hotels, which are located in a more secluded and peaceful area. Our room was clean and the service was impeccable. However, you get the feeling that the rooms are starting to show their age and that some renovation would probably be appreciated. We also had a jacuzzi on the balcony. It was nice to have one, but it was quite old and took about an hour to fill. The water pressure wasn't very strong either. The à la carte restaurants are easy to book, which is a plus. Our favorite was the Mexican restaurant. We also enjoyed the Italian one, while the Dominican restaurant was a little less impressive. The buffet is set up in an area enclosed by wire mesh to keep birds out. There's plenty of space inside, and you can choose between dining outside or in the air-conditioned area. As for activities, there are several options: bicycles, zip-lining, mini-golf, archery, tennis, pool, foosball, and more. Some activities, however, are not free. For example, the zip-lining costs US$5 per person. The sports bar is also a good place to go, but only draft beer is included. Other drinks cost around US$4. The evening entertainment was probably one of the least impressive aspects for us. There is a performance hall, but it was only used three times during our stay. On other evenings, the entertainment was mainly centered around the pool bar, with fairly loud music. It lacked a bit of variety. However, the GREASE show was truly excellent and a highlight of our stay. We also took a taxi to Puerto Plata for US$30. Our driver accompanied us and strolled through the streets, allowing us to discover the city in a very pleasant way. Among the places that impressed us most were Umbrella Street, Pink Street, and the fortress. It was an outing we thoroughly enjoyed. About a five-minute walk from the hotel, there's a small shopping center. However, very few shops were open during our stay. It included a pharmacy, a convenience store, a few restaurants, and some souvenir vendors. Our overall impression, despite a few areas for improvement, is that we absolutely loved our stay. The service was impeccable, the room was clean, and the beach is beautiful. For us, the beach is clearly the biggest plus of this hotel. The beauty of the sea, the long walks, and the tranquility all contributed greatly to making our stay in Puerto Plata very enjoyable. We left with wonderful memories and, above all, with the feeling of having had a truly fantastic trip.

Nous avons vraiment apprécié notre séjour à Puerto Plata. Dès notre arrivée, nous étions heureux d’avoir choisi une chambre dans la section réservée aux adultes de l’hôtel. Nous avions accès à une piscine réservée aux 18 ans et plus et, surtout, nous séjournions dans l’un des deux édifices réservés aux adultes, les bâtiments 12 et 13. Ce choix s’est avéré très intéressant, particulièrement durant les fins de semaine.

En effet, la piscine principale est assez bruyante, avec une musique parfois très forte. De nombreux Dominicains viennent y séjourner du vendredi après-midi jusqu’au dimanche, ce qui fait que la piscine devient rapidement très achalandée et qu’il est difficile d’y trouver une place. De notre côté, nous avons donc beaucoup apprécié la tranquillité de notre section réservée aux adultes.

La plage est sans aucun doute le gros plus de cet hôtel. Elle est magnifique et offre une ambiance beaucoup plus tranquille. Le matin, la mer est généralement plus calme, tandis qu’en après-midi, le vent se lève et les vagues deviennent plus présentes. Nous avons particulièrement aimé nous laisser bercer par les vagues. Il y a beaucoup de chaises disponibles, mais les places à l’ombre sont plus difficiles à trouver. Il n’y a pas de musique sur la plage, ce qui est très agréable lorsqu’on veut simplement relaxer. Cependant, il faut composer avec plusieurs vendeurs qui circulent sur la plage. Certains sont parfois assez insistants.

La plage permet également de faire de belles promenades. Nous pouvions marcher environ 45 minutes vers la droite et une bonne trentaine de minutes vers la gauche. Du côté droit, on passe notamment devant les hôtels Grand Ventana et Blue Bay, qui sont situés dans un secteur plus isolé et tranquille.

Notre chambre était propre et le service, impeccable. Par contre, on sent que les chambres commencent tranquillement à manquer un peu d’amour et qu'une certaine rénovation serait probablement appréciée. Nous avions également un jacuzzi sur le balcon. C’était agréable d’en avoir un, mais celui-ci était assez vieux et demandait environ une heure pour se remplir. La pression de l’eau n’était pas très forte non plus.

Les restaurants à la carte sont faciles à réserver, ce qui est un bon point. Notre préféré a été le restaurant mexicain. Nous avons également apprécié l’italien, tandis que le restaurant dominicain nous a un peu moins impressionnés. Le buffet est installé dans un espace entouré de grillages afin d’empêcher les oiseaux d’y entrer. Il y a suffisamment de place à l’intérieur et il est possible de choisir entre manger à l’extérieur ou dans l’espace climatisé.

Du côté des activités, il y a plusieurs possibilités : vélos, tyrolienne, mini-golf, tir à l’arc, tennis, table de billard, baby-foot, etc. Certaines activités sont toutefois payantes. Par exemple, le vélo tyrolienne coûte 5 $ US par personne.

Le bar sportif est également un endroit intéressant, mais seule la bière en fût est incluse. Pour les autres consommations, il faut payer environ 4 $ US.
Pour ce qui est des spectacles en soirée, c’est probablement l’un des aspects qui nous a le moins impressionnés. Il y a une salle de spectacle, mais elle a été utilisée seulement trois fois durant notre séjour. Les autres soirs, l’animation se déroulait principalement devant le bar de la piscine, avec de la musique assez forte. Cela manquait un peu de variété. Par contre, le spectacle GREASE était vraiment excellent et a été un très beau moment de notre séjour.

Nous sommes également allés à Puerto Plata en taxi pour 30 $ US. Notre chauffeur nous a accompagnés et s’est promené avec nous dans les rues, ce qui nous a permis de découvrir la ville de façon très agréable. Parmi les endroits qui nous ont le plus marqués, il y a la rue des parapluies, la rue rose et la forteresse. C’est une sortie que nous avons beaucoup appréciée.

À environ cinq minutes à pied de l’hôtel, il y a un petit centre commercial. Par contre, très peu de commerces étaient ouverts durant notre séjour. On y trouve notamment une pharmacie, un dépanneur, quelques restaurants et quelques vendeurs de souvenirs.
Notre impression générale, malgré quelques points qui pourraient être améliorés, nous avons vraiment adoré notre séjour. Le service était impeccable, la chambre était propre et la plage est magnifique. Pour nous, la plage demeure clairement le gros PLUS de cet hôtel. La beauté de la mer, les longues promenades et le calme qu’on y retrouve ont largement contribué à rendre notre séjour à Puerto Plata très agréable. Nous sommes repartis avec de très beaux souvenirs et, surtout, avec le sentiment d’avoir fait un très beau voyage.
