Located on the sparkling golden sands of Maimon Bay in Puerto Plata, the PlayaBachata Resort is the perfect place for your next beach getaway. Relax by one of the sparkling pools with a refreshing drink in hand, or grab a bite to eat from the poolside restaurant. Guests particularly appreciate the friendliness and excellent service of the staff. The overall cleanliness of the resort and its facilities is also highly praised, as is the beauty of the grounds and its lush vegetation. Furthermore, the buffet is often considered good and varied, offering a wide selection, and the beach is described as beautiful and well-maintained, shaded by palm trees. However, it is sometimes mentioned that the rooms could benefit from renovations and that some issues with humidity or air conditioning can occur. Additionally, some guests occasionally find the buffet repetitive.

First trip to this hotel. The grounds are very well maintained by the gardeners. Our room was dated but clean. However, the faulty air conditioning didn't really help with a relaxing stay in the July heat. The housekeeping staff were efficient, and the fridge was regularly stocked with water and soft drinks. Despite my initial concerns, I didn't see any cockroaches. The major drawback was the resort being overcrowded with Dominican clientele (95% of them) during our two-week stay. I had already read many reviews about this, but experiencing it firsthand was very unpleasant. Here's why: the pool was packed, leaving no room to relax. And what about the buffet? It was like the locals were starving! Plates were piled high, and they were all taking food to go. And the food waste? They took up all the space, completely swarming the place, and looked at us strangely, as if we were intruding. The staff are courteous but nothing more, definitely not the human warmth that we found in Cuba.

Apart from the beach and the staff, there's nothing good about this hotel.
The children's pool was dirty, and the food was really poor. We had to change rooms twice upon arrival.

Not as good as Cuba - Jaded staff
Moins bien que Cuba - Personnel blasé
+ Superb long beach + Clean rooms The negative points: The reception and guest services staff didn't know there were kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing activities available on site. After several inquiries, they told us there were, but not free… After showing us where they were, we were finally able to borrow a kayak and stand-up paddleboard the next day. Initially, they wanted us to borrow them for only one hour for two people, which was 30 minutes each, even though it was supposed to be one hour per day. Then they finally agreed to one hour each… The next day, to go windsurfing, it was impossible to borrow the board without taking a $30/hour USD lesson PER PERSON first!!! After a long discussion, Benjamin explained that the windsurfing board should be included in our package and told us they would give it back to us after the lesson if it wasn't damaged. We said okay, but it wasn't possible to have the lesson that day because the instructor was on vacation. The day after the lesson, Benjamin wasn't there, and the staff said that no, the lessons were mandatory, not included, and non-refundable. When they called Benjamin so I could speak to him and ask why he'd told me it was a deposit and that I'd get a refund, he hung up on me. So I paid $50 USD for the lesson only to then borrow the windsurfing board for free. Note that even if there are two of you and two windsurfing boards, they only lend one because they keep the other for rentals. It wasn't rented once in the four days we were sitting next to them on the beach. In the end, I had to pay for my daughters to do an activity that Transat and Voyage à rabais advertise as free and included on their website. There are a lot of Dominicans in the summer, 85% of the hotel is full, and the food is definitely not as good as in the winter unless you like goat stew, liver steak, and roasted tripe. There was always pasta, pizza, rice, and pork available. There were several power outages every day. The staff was very inconsistent; some were very friendly, while others seemed completely indifferent to your tip.
