• Sparkling swimming pools surrounded by restaurants and bars
• Beachfront property offering a lively activity program
• Family-friendly hotel surrounded by lush gardens and featuring a supervised kids' club
Located on the sparkling golden sands of Maimon Bay in Puerto Plata, the PlayaBachata Resort is the perfect place for your next beach getaway. Surrounded by lush mountains and tropical gardens, the hotel offers a variety of rooms, each with a minibar, a liquor dispenser, and a balcony or terrace where you can sip your morning coffee. Relax by one of the sparkling pools with a refreshing drink in hand, or grab a bite to eat from the poolside restaurant. Children will have a blast in their section of the pool or at the kids' club, while couples can enjoy a romantic stroll on the beach.
Guests particularly appreciate the friendliness and excellent service of the staff. The overall cleanliness of the resort and its facilities is also highly praised, as is the beauty of the grounds and its lush vegetation. Furthermore, the buffet is often considered good and varied, offering a wide selection, and the beach is described as beautiful and well-maintained, shaded by palm trees. However, it is sometimes mentioned that the rooms could benefit from renovations and that some issues with humidity or air conditioning can occur. Additionally, some guests occasionally find the buffet repetitive.

Family hotel par excellence
Hotel familiale par excellence
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Playa Bachata. The atmosphere is pleasant, the hotel is welcoming, and the staff is simply outstanding. The food is very good, although the menu can sometimes feel a bit repetitive after a few days. The excursions offered are excellent, especially Punta Rucia, which is a must-see. To visit downtown Puerto Plata and the surrounding area, I recommend taking a taxi on your own. Several drivers offer a transportation and escort service for about three hours for between US$55 and US$65, allowing you to explore more at your own pace. Another plus is the access to a small market right next to the hotel, which includes a very nice pizzeria and café. Part of the hotel at one end was under renovation during our stay. This slightly reduced the experience, but didn't spoil it. Areas for improvement: Unfortunately, only one pool was open during our stay, which limited options for visitors. Water safety could be improved. It would be preferable to have a full-time lifeguard at the beach and another at the pool, rather than a single person covering both areas. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but relatively small. The beds are also smaller than what Canadian travelers are generally used to. Despite these few areas for improvement, the overall experience remains very positive thanks to the quality of the staff, the friendly atmosphere of the resort, and the many activities offered in the area. I would definitely recommend Playa Bachata for a stay in Puerto Plata.
More...

Mid-range hotel
Hôtel de classe moyenne
The hotel is okay, nothing special. They say the buffet changes daily, but they only change one or two things, so the food is pretty much the same every day. The beach is endless and very clean for July. The pool is too small and always crowded, so we went to the Senator next door, which was better. The activities are disappointing; there's not much to do unless you pay to go outside the resort. Overall, it was alright, but nothing special.

First trip to this hotel. The grounds are very well maintained by the gardeners. Our room was dated but clean. However, the faulty air conditioning didn't really help with a relaxing stay in the July heat. The housekeeping staff were efficient, and the fridge was regularly stocked with water and soft drinks. Despite my initial concerns, I didn't see any cockroaches. The major drawback was the resort being overcrowded with Dominican clientele (95% of them) during our two-week stay. I had already read many reviews about this, but experiencing it firsthand was very unpleasant. Here's why: the pool was packed, leaving no room to relax. And what about the buffet? It was like the locals were starving! Plates were piled high, and they were all taking food to go. And the food waste? They took up all the space, completely swarming the place, and looked at us strangely, as if we were intruding. The staff are courteous but nothing more, definitely not the human warmth that we found in Cuba.

Apart from the beach and the staff, there's nothing good about this hotel.
The children's pool was dirty, and the food was really poor. We had to change rooms twice upon arrival.
