Have a wonderful week!
Très belle semaine!
We had a wonderful and relaxing trip! Overall, nothing but positive things to say! The resort was very clean, the staff were friendly, the pools were perfect, and the varied food was excellent. There was some seaweed on the shore and in the water, but the beach was cleaned. We enjoyed the sea! The rooms could use some updating to make them more comfortable (e.g., the air conditioning was inadequate, the beds were very small and uncomfortable, the bathroom door was broken, etc.). Despite this, having stayed in other hotels and destinations, we were very satisfied with our trip.

Avoid moldy Riu Bambu
Évitez Riu Bambu moisissures
Our room smelled musty. When we asked to change rooms, we were shown the other one first. The air conditioning was leaking from the ceiling in that room, and the musty smell was there too. My son coughed the entire stay. Our clothes, even after being washed twice, still smelled of mold. We booked two activities: one on a catamaran for snorkeling and another to visit monkeys. The catamaran was okay but very noisy (loud music). For the monkey activity, there were two of us (a woman and a child), and a minibus took us to very poor areas and villages. We weren't warned that we would be passing through such a poor area, and the driver didn't speak English or French. I thought we were being kidnapped. The activity itself wasn't what the photos showed. Monkeys in huts (not in the wild). The animal farm was just animals in 12x12 foot cages. The "plantation" tour was just a young man explaining how they make coffee, chocolate, and coconut oil via a small path of about 500 meters between the entrance and exit of this "farm." We were supposed to see a cenote, but it was a swimming pool. The bar staff were sometimes very rude, but the restaurant staff were very friendly. The beach had sargassum seaweed (we expected it, but it wasn't too bad). The water slide was okay. The food was okay. The cleaning staff didn't always knock, or they would knock and open the door without waiting for a response. My husband and child were naked in the room when she entered. Two of the six travelers were sick for 24 hours, and we had no idea what it was. Our friend had to change rooms because the air conditioning wasn't working, the door wouldn't unlock, the safe didn't work, there was hair in the bed, and mold on the mattress. The new room didn't have mold, but the air conditioning barely worked, and the room was still 27°C (81°F). After talking with other travelers, we realized we weren't alone with the moldy smell and that changing rooms was impossible. We also realized that the family deluxe room was advertised as having a king-size bed and a sofa bed. But the sofa bed is actually a single bed. So it's not possible to have two people sleeping in the beds. We had to sleep three in the king-size bed and one in the single. Some families of five had to put two children in a single bed, creating huge bedtime problems. We also learned that the hotel will be renovated in about a year. Don't go there before it reopens. An absolutely horrible experience.
More...
