We stayed at the Riu Emerald Bay from June 20th to 27th, 2026. We are a family of two adults and two children (ages 5 and 10). Overall, we enjoyed our trip, but we wouldn't return to this area simply because we are beach people. Beach/Pools: We knew the sea was rough in this area before booking, but I found it dangerous once we arrived. We did use the pool, but since most people congregate there, the pools are only moderately clean. There are a LOT of chairs, both at the beach and the pool, but the beach offers very little shade, so I was glad I brought my own parasol. The Mariachi bands are also quite loud, playing several groups and songs simultaneously; it's very cacophonous from noon to 8 pm. Restaurants: There are several restaurants on the property. The food is generally very good. After a week, I didn't find it TOO repetitive. The only downside is that the à la carte restaurants are also themed buffets. We preferred the Italian and Asian restaurants, although the Mexican was also good. Hotel/Room: We had a room in the main tower. Overall, the room was very nice, but a bit dated. However, it was very clean. The rooms in this tower all have ocean views, and the view is truly magnificent. The hotel offers an app for pre-checking in upon arrival, booking à la carte restaurants, and requesting services (refilling the mini-bar, requesting towels, etc.), which was also very much appreciated. The major drawback of this hotel is the elevators. A real nightmare of endless waiting, and when the elevator finally opens, it's full. Activities/Entertainment: We saw several entertainment staff members grouping people for various activities. For our part, we didn't want to participate, but there always seemed to be something going on around the resort. We only went to see the children's shows, which were fine. Every evening, a member of the entertainment team stood near the restaurants announcing the evening's shows. It was impossible to miss anything if that's what you're looking for. LANGUAGES: English isn't understood by all the staff. Many only speak Spanish, which can be very difficult to communicate. For example, at the towel station, the employee couldn't tell us that he was expecting the cart of clean towels in a few minutes; he tried to mime it for us. Tourists: I found the Mexican tourists very intrusive and disrespectful. They push past other people in the restaurant, talk so loudly (almost shouting) all day long, and leave plates full of food everywhere. One couple even moved our belongings (towel, bag, sandals, and clothes) onto our chair to sit down, even though we were right next to them in the pool. They arrive very late and shout in the rooms and hallways (I know that sometimes Quebecers can be noisy too, but in this place, I assure you it wasn't the Quebecers who were causing the disturbance). For me, it wasn't a bad experience, but I won't be going back.

Nous avons séjourné au Riu Emerald Bay du 20 au 27 juin 2026. Nous sommes une famille de 2 adultes et 2 enfants (5 et 10 ans). En général, nous avons apprécié notre voyage, mais pour notre part, nous ne retournerons pas dans ce secteur pour la seule raison que nous sommes des gens de type plage. Plage/piscines : Nous savions que la mer était agitée dans ce secteur avant de réserver, mais j'ai trouvé ca dangereux une fois sur place. Nous avons alors profité de la piscine, mais compte tenu que les gens se retrouve principalement à la piscine, les piscines sont plus ou moins propres. Il y a ÉNORMÉMENT de chaises, autant à la plage qu'à la piscine, mais à la plage, c'est très peu ombragé, je n'ai pas regretté d'avoir apporté mon parasol. Il y aussi les Mariachi qui sont pas mal intenses en jouant simultanément à plusieurs groupes et plusieurs chansons, c'est très cacophonique de 12 à 20h. Restaurant : Plusieurs restaurants sur ce site. La nourriture est en général très bonne. Après une semaine, je n'ai pas trouvé ça TROP redondant. Le seul point négatif est que les restaurants à la carte sont aussi des buffets thématiques. Nous avons préféré l'Italien et l'Asiatique bien que c'était aussi bon au Mexicain. Hotel/Chambre : Nous avions une chambre dans la grande tour, sommes toutes, la chambre était très bien, mais vieillissante. C'était par contre très propre. Les chambres dans cette tour sont toutes vues mer et la vue et vraiment magnifique. L'hotel propose une application pour se pré-enregistrer à l'arriver, réserver les restaurants à la carte et demander des services (remplissage mini-bar, demande de serviette, etc) ce qui a été très apprécié également. Le gros point négatif de cet hotel, c'est les ascenseurs. Un vrai cauchemar d'attente interminable et quand l'ascenseur s'ouvre enfin, elle est pleine. Activité/Animation : Nous avons vu plusieurs animateurs regrouper des gens pour plusieurs activités. Pour notre part, nous ne voulions pas participer, mais il semblait avoir toujours un petit quelques choses un peu partout sur le site. Nous avons été voir les spectacles pour enfant seulement, c'était bien. Tous les soirs, un membre du groupe d'animation se tenait près des restaurants pour annoncer les spectacles du soir. Impossible ne rien manquer si c'est que ce vous rechercher. LANGUES : Anglais n'est pas compris par tout le personnel. Beaucoup parlent seulement espagnol, c'est parfois très difficile de communiquer. Par exemple aux serviettes, l'employé sur place n'était pas capable de nous dire qu'il attendait le charriot de serviettes propre d'ici quelques minutes, il a tenté de nous le mimer. Touristes : J'ai trouvé les touristes mexicains très envahissants et irrespectueux. Ils dépassent au restaurant, parlent tellement fort (pour pas dire crient) toutes la journées, laissent des assiettes pleines de nourritures partout. Un couple à même déplacer nos choses (serviette, sac, sandales et vêtements) sur notre chaise pour prendre place, alors que nous étions juste à coté dans la piscine. Ils entrent très tard et hurlent dans les chambres et corridor (Je sais que parfois les Québécois ce démarquent aussi, mais à cet endroit, je vous assure que ce n'était pas les Québécois qui dérangeaient). Pour ma part, ca n'a pas été une mauvaise expérience, mais je n'y retournerai pas.

The beach was a zero, you couldn't swim. The elevators were also a zero; luckily we were on the 3rd floor, otherwise we would have had to take the stairs every time! Many Mexican families (90%) were unclean and ate and drank anywhere in the hotel. This is not a 5-star hotel. We will not be returning!

La plage un 0, on ne peut pas se baigner..Les ascenseur 0, un chance que nous etions au 3 ieme étage, il a fallu descendre les escaliers chaque fois! Beaucoup de familles Mexicaines (90%) pas propres, mangent et boivent n importe ou dans le hôtel. Ce n'est pas un hôtel 5 étoiles. Nous ne retournerons pas!
