9 things not to do in Las Vegas

While Las Vegas is synonymous with the gambling capital, it's also synonymous with entertainment, nights that end (way) too late, extraordinary shows, and discoveries! I've talked about Las Vegas at length and often, but I think it's worth adding a little more! Just for your enjoyment (and a little bit for mine too, I confess), here's a list of 9 things you shouldn't do in Las Vegas.

1. Forget your walking shoes

The street corners are long. You're constantly walking. Just leaving your hotel will give you blisters if you're wearing even slightly uncomfortable shoes. Forget those cute little high heels you can't wear for more than one night without taking them off after a few hours—you'll suffer! And bring some plasters, just in case!

2. Leave your identification documents in the hotel room

In Las Vegas, ID is essential. It's checked everywhere! In casinos, at bars, in restaurants. If you don't want to order a decent meal with just a glass of water, carry your documents with you! Passport or driver's license, for example.

3. Buy your drinks at the hotel

Bad idea! You'll pay way too much. For example, a bottle of water in the hotel gift shop will cost you $5. Instead, buy your refreshments (wine, beer, and spirits) at the local pharmacy (there's literally one on almost every corner!).

4. Do not buy your show tickets in advance

Especially for the most popular shows, those that aren't there every day: Shania Twain, Britney Spears, Céline Dion (when she returns), or any other special event! For Cirque du Soleil shows, there are generally two performances per night, five nights a week. So it's not essential to book far in advance.

5. Believing that you are going to rest

Forget it! Too many people everywhere. Too much to do. Even at the pool, it's not relaxing. The only place to unwind is your room!

6. Skip the hotel visits

Las Vegas is known for its extraordinary themed hotels. Take some time to visit! That brings us back to point #1!

7. Don't play the High Roller

It's a brand new attraction, a Ferris wheel that reaches 550 feet at the top. Just a little off the Strip, it's the best way to get a magnificent view of Sin City!

8. Stop to listen to every person who approaches you on the street

Vendors selling all sorts of products will approach you on the Strip, I'm warning you. Ignore them, or it will never stop! Unless you're genuinely interested…

9. Buy your souvenirs on the Strip

You'll pay too much. Instead, use the opportunity to fill up your tank when you go to old Las Vegas; there are better deals there.
