A study conducted by the prestigious Harvard Business Review shows that employees who use up all their allocated vacation time during the year are more likely to get a raise from their boss! Yes, you read that right!
Far too many people tend to think that taking vacation sends a negative message to their employer and slows down their career advancement. However, according to Harvard's research, this is completely false!
Employees who take vacations are 6.5% more likely to receive a raise or promotion than those who don't take 11 or more days of paid leave each year. The percentage may seem small, but it demonstrates that there is no correlation between staying in the office and accelerating one's career.
Most business leaders link their employees' personal happiness to their work productivity. The book "The Happiness Advantage" demonstrated that when the brain thinks positively, it increases productivity by 31% , and creativity and revenue can triple! So, to be positive and focused at work, your brain needs a period of rest!
Researchers have also shown that 94% of vacations are more beneficial if :
1) You plan your departure at least one month in advance and you prepare your colleagues well for your absence.
2) You move away from where you live (the further away the better).
3) Upon arrival you will meet a local host who can advise you appropriately.
4) Finalize all the details about your trip before you leave! A well-planned vacation will be more beneficial for you!
Taking a vacation is not a luxury, but a necessity! So start planning your next break!
That's good for you and your career! :)
