Cheaper Vacations

The story of a solo traveler

Travel Stories

Marie-Pierre Boucher is a young professional from Montreal who has twice experienced solo all-inclusive vacations. For her, traveling south alone allows her to recharge and rejuvenate. It's an opportunity to take time just for herself, to travel without compromise, and also to push her limits.

A first adventure full of surprises

Her first solo trip was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Having taken a last-minute vacation, she had no one to travel with. Without hesitation, she decided to spend a week alone at an all-inclusive resort in Cuba. Surprisingly, she had no fears about this new experience.

With the help of a travel agent, Marie-Pierre selected a hotel that perfectly matched her criteria and needs. She wanted access to a beautiful beach, opportunities to socialize, and, above all, a package offering good value for money. She therefore opted for a large, modern, and vibrant resort complex offering a wide range of activities.

Open to meeting new people, she quickly made friends, even on the very first day of her trip! In fact, during her flight from Montreal to Cuba, she struck up a friendship with a young woman who was going to meet other friends at the same hotel. What a happy coincidence! She was thus able to share part of her vacation with this group; she even stayed in touch with some of them after returning to Quebec.

Once there, she also got to know the GOs (Gentils Organisateurs), who gave her great advice and suggested a wide variety of fun activities and excursions. Marie-Pierre even participated in a few of them during her stay. In short, her first solo trip was a surprising and thoroughly enjoyable experience!

A second experience with complete confidence

When the idea of a second all-inclusive trip to the south came up, Marie-Pierre went without even asking anyone to accompany her. Having already experienced it solo once, she knew exactly what to expect and wasn't at all afraid of being bored.

Wanting to relax, she opted for a smaller resort in Cuba with an older clientele. The atmosphere was consequently much more laid-back! She took advantage of the tranquility to read three or four novels she had brought and to sunbathe on the beach. In short, she loved these moments of solitude, doing whatever she pleased.

Even though she was alone, she went out every evening to see the music and dance shows offered at the hotel, activities she thoroughly enjoyed. Staying alone in her room was out of the question! She wanted to make the most of her trip! The same went for meals: she didn't hesitate to eat out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, even when she was by herself. She would find a small table outside and enjoy the magnificent scenery.

In short, Marie-Pierre's two experiences allowed her to discover the different facets of solo travel. She loved the security of the all-inclusive package and being taken care of from start to finish, from transportation and accommodation to activities. She felt well looked after. This is a major advantage when traveling alone. But what she loved most of all was pushing her limits by traveling solo, an experience she recommends everyone try at least once in their life! She also confided that this certainly won't be her last solo adventure!
