Traveling with only hand luggage

Travel Tips

Are you only going away for a weekend and want to avoid lugging around a large suitcase? Since airlines charge for checked baggage, if you're traveling to Canada or the United States, it can be advantageous to travel light! Traveling with just a carry-on bag is possible! Here are a few tips to help you pack it.

First, choose a lightweight piece of luggage. If you opt for a small suitcase, keep in mind that the wheels and the suitcase's structure add weight. Instead, choose a lightweight and spacious backpack, which you can find in sporting goods stores, for example.

Choose plain, neutral clothing that can be easily mixed and matched to create different outfits. Opt for pieces that don't wrinkle and dry quickly. There's nothing stopping you from hand-washing your clothes in the evening and hanging them to dry overnight!

This advice applies to both men and women: bring no more than three pairs of shoes: one pair of sandals, one pair of clean shoes, and one pair of casual shoes. Alternatively, one pair of clean shoes, one pair of casual shoes, and one pair of sneakers. Your choice will, of course, depend on your destination and planned activities!

Girls, forget about wearing a ton of jewelry! Choose just a few pieces that go well with your outfits. Wear your jewelry on the flight; it'll take longer to remove at security, but it'll weigh less in your luggage!

Most hotels already provide toiletries in the room (soap, shampoo, etc.). Bring only the bare essentials! However, remember the 100ml limit for liquid and gel containers in your carry-on luggage. Otherwise, you'll have to throw them away.

When packing, put the essentials in first. Roll your clothes instead of folding them—it saves space! And why not invest in a scale to weigh your luggage and make sure you don't exceed the airline's limits? Because if you do, you won't be any better off…

When flying, wear your largest and heaviest items. Your jeans and coat, for example. This way, you'll have more room in your bag!

And you, do you have any tips to share?
